Over the weekend, the Queensland State Labor Conference was held in Mackay at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre, and the Save Eungella group gathered in protest. Save Eungella and other members of the community are concerned about the construction of the proposed Pioneer-Burdekin Pumped Hydro project that they believe could destroy platypus habitats.

Addressing the Labor Party faithful at the conference, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced that the state would legislate renewable energy targets. However, the Save Eungella group is concerned that the construction of the new facility could harm the environment and wildlife in the area.

The Save Eungella group's protest at the Queensland State Labor Conference highlights the ongoing debate between economic development and environmental protection. As the state moves towards renewable energy targets, it is important to consider the impact of new developments on the environment and wildlife.
